***Update: Are you coming tonight?***
You can print an 8.5"x11" sign from this PDF if you don't have time to make your own. We'll have some copies on hand to share. If you're able to come 5-10 minutes early to take a seat, please do. It's always ok to come in later; just enter quietly to not disturb the proceeding.
See you there!***
Wednesday, 4/16: 7pm, Somerville City Hall
Show up and pack City Hall Chambers to Support Fully Funded Schools
Education is a shared Somerville Value!
Joint City Council-School Committee meeting — info below!
Bring Signs! — ideas below
Wear SPS school shirts or school colors
Kids are welcome at City Hall — there's even a Kids' Corner!
This meeting is the ONLY time in the city budget process when the School Committee and City Council meet together publically. (No public comment.) Butts in seats matter!
Remind our elected officials the Somerville community prioritizes fully funding education this budget season, especially in the face of potentially drastic federal and state cuts. Help our officials stand strong and fully fund the schools and programs we're fighting to defend, as we remain committed to our shared values supporting and protecting diverse, inclusive schools.
Here are several ways to show up- this Wednesday and beyond:
1. Bring signs - here are some ideas for messages:
"Somerville Supports Education/Kids/Our Kids' Education"
"We Support Public Schools"
"Education is a Somerville Value"
"We Value our Kids"
"Students deserve fully funded schools"
"Let's Find the Money"
"Somerville Prioritizes Kids/Our Schools"
2. Wednesday's meeting (agenda here) is hybrid. Eyes on the process do help, but people in the Chambers have the biggest impact!
If you can't be there in person, you can listen live online by registering for the zoom at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ZXGEjeP1RM6avbG9fOfOYg
3. Stay tuned to this web page for more actions!
Calls and emails matter just as much as packing the room! We'll share updates with how best to get our message across and who to share it with after we learn what the City has to share Wednesday.
Save the Date: Wednesday, May 7th, the Somerville Educators' Union (SEU) will be rallying in front of East Somerville Community School in support of a fully funded Schools' Budget, followed by the a Public Hearing on FY26 Superintendent's Budget at the ESCS Auditorium at 6pm. This hearing allows for public comment.
This campaign is an initiative of the Somerville Council of PTAs: https://www.facebook.com/SomervillePTAs/
