Fundraising, Grants, & Community Partnerships Committee Thanks for your interest in working together on this vital part of the PTA’s mission! Our fundraising is earmarked in our annual budget of approx. $23k. It was approved by membership in our first general meeting. Review what we’re fundraising for by clicking to see the budget below.
Fundraising Committee Goals:
Build off of the great work that has been done at the Kennedy before.
Look towards other Somerville Public Schools’ PTAs and beyond for guidance, ideas, and best practices as we move forward.
Move away from many high-labor, low return fundraisers (pie, candy, merchandise, bake sales) and towards a few large-scale fundraisers.
Move towards sourcing funds from the greater community instead of only families with the goal of building ties and connection between the community and the school to last for years to come.
Empower members of this committee to help steer future decision-making around fundraising priorities and budget planning.
Planned fundraisers and their NET monetary goals: Goals are based off of prior years’ initiatives and income.
Fall Donation Drive $5,500. Dates TBD
Book Fair < $1k - This is a hybrid fundraiser/give-back event. Dec. 4-8
Community Partnership Give-Back Events $1,500 - These are new, so the goal is a guestimate. Dates TBD
Family Nights Out $1,000 - An evolution of the “Kids Night Out” concept, which will be hybrid fundraisers and community-building events geared towards students and their caregiver(s). Dates TBD
Boosterthon $16,500 - There is a fundraising campaign and final main event. Planning begins in January. Dates Likely March Additional Possibilities:
Community Car Wash! - Spring / early summer
Grants - might be earmarked for specific events or opportunities at the school or general funding
Your ideas! We’re always looking for new ideas and the volunteer-power to make them happen Note: the 8th Grade Fundraising Committee also raises funds throughout the year for 8th grade-specific events like graduation, yearbooks, end-of-year celebrations, etc. The PTA acts as a pass-through for their fundraising for legal purposes, but we don’t organize their fundraisers or events. If you’re interested in joining that committee, email us and we’ll be happy to connect you to the already-active group.
