Dance Fit/Boosterthon: What's it all about?

Behind the scenes, we’re working hard on final preparations for Boosterthon, the year’s most important fundraiser, which will ideally fund the vast majority of our budget for exciting field trips, experiential learning opportunities, and events our students and staff will remember for years to come (for all the right reasons, of course!) After careful consideration, a committee of PTA board members decided to once again hire the Booster company to run this combination of fundraising campaign and Dance-a-Thon final event. The goal is to learn as much as we can from this year’s campaign and decide whether we can create our own DIY version next year to lower the costs of doing such a large-scale campaign, while still hitting our fundraising goals. And this year, we really need this event to be a success to hit our numbers!

So what is Boosterthon / Kennedy Dance Fit?

Boosterthon is designed to leverage families’ networks to bring in extra funds. Once a student gets registered, families are asked to share their student’s fundraising link via email, text or social media with extended family, friends, coworkers and other networks to spread the fundraising request out into the greater community - in theory, relying less on direct funding from Kennedy families and doubling or tripling the amount we can raise. The goal is $18,000 NET in funds raised, and this was based off our budgetary needs. (Budget is here.)

Daily from 2/28-3/7 during the fundraising campaign, students will watch short videos in their homeroom class that inspire them to find ways to make a positive impact on our local community. The “World Changer Workshop” video series features real-world kids who’ve done just that, and shares simple and impactful steps to help kids identify needs in their community and work on their own campaigns to help others.

The Dance Fit event is a final in-school celebration March 8, where kids do 35 minutes of movement and dance guided by fun videos on a big screen, hosted by a live DJ and hype team from Booster. Every student gets to participate in the final event regardless of their participation in the fundraiser and we think they’re going to have a blast!

How can you help?

  • Register your student at mybooster.com, even if you don’t plan to fundraise. If 60% of Kennedy’s student body registers, they get a school-wide Pajama Day - fun for everyone!

  • After registering, if you want to help fundraise, share your student’s link with your networks between 2/29 - 3/7!

  • All students will win prizes/experiences together as we reach goals:

  • 60% of student body registers on Mybooster.com = schoolwide Pajama Day

  • $4,500 raised = schoolwide prizes

  • $9,000 raised = schoolwide prizes

  • All 50 states have at least one donation = schoolwide prizes

  • $18,000 raised = schoolwide prizes plus Mr. Marshall gets very, very silly (he’ll be duct-taped to a wall and silly stringed)!!!

  • Tell your student to keep an eye on the map in the lobby and have fun seeing if we can get donations from all 50 states and how many countries we can receive donations from! We’ll also share map and goals updates throughout the campaign on our Facebook group and our website’s New & Events Updates page.

  • Starting 3/1, encourage your kids to make a song request and drop it off in the request box in the Kennedy lobby under the PTA bulletin board. Song requests should include: song title, artist, student’s grade, and (optional) student’s name. We can’t play them all, but we’ll try to have the DJ play many of them!

  • You’re invited to cheer on your students during their Dance Fit event time - sign up here to help or to cheer - you do need a current CORI on file.
