Updates from the General Meeting, 9/26/24 - NOTES ARE NOW AVAILABLE ON OUR Records & Reports page at: https://kennedyschoolpta.wixsite.com/jfkpta/reports
1) The Proposed FY 2024-2025 PTA budget was approved by a majority of members in attendance.
Budget highlights:
we are starting the year with a surplus reserve carried over from last year
We'll focus fundraising efforts on an online direct-giving campaign hosted on the fundraising platform GiveButter. The goal will be $9500 raised to cover the major expenses for this year (field trips or equivalent experiences for all grades, major community-building events, operating costs). The remainder of expenses would be covered through other smaller fundraisers and our reserves.
Direct Giving Campaign details will be coming VERY SOON
If we're successful with the direct-giving campaign, we will be able to skip a labor-intensive, high stakes spring fundraising event (Boosterthon/Dance-a-thon/Fun Run) this year.
The direct-giving campaign will cost the PTA a tiny fraction in fees, meaning donation dollars go straight to supporting the PTA's mission.
In contrast, a large scale fundraising event like Boosterthon costs PTA anywhere from 35-50% of every dollar raised in addition to hours of behind-the-scenes labor.
We will also continue to pursue in-kind donations from local businesses to offset event costs
We'll continue to look for partnerships with local businesses to provide give-back fundraisers and events (like Flatbread night, Angelina's pizza fundraiser, and Magpie Kids Sip & Shop giveback night last year)
2) We announced major event dates. You can check the PTA Calendar for all upcoming events.
3) We need YOU - YOU are the PTA and the members of the board can't do it alone.
There are so many ways to get involved and many of you only have an hour to give in a year. That hour means a lot! So do your donations of food and other items!
For those of you who have more time, we desperately need COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS. We can't accomplish annual traditions like Harvest Fest, Book Fair, Spring Carnival and more without your help.
This is a PTA Election Year! The election will be held during a general business meeting in April or May. We need to elect a President, up to 2 Vice Presidents, a Treasurer, and up to 2 co-Secretaries for a 2 year term.
We are recruiting a nominating committee (let us know you're interested here.) This committee's job will be to spread the word about the election and work to identify and get to know interested candidates, and ultimately select a slate of nominees. In addition to the slate of nominees, anyone else can self-nominate or be nominated by another PTA member from the floor during the election.
